OpenAI launches personal finance experience in ChatGPT with connected accounts
OpenAI announced a preview of personal finance tools in ChatGPT for Pro users in the US. Users can connect accounts through Plaid across over 12,000 financial institutions, enabling spending analysis, investment overviews, subscription tracking, and natural-language financial planning within ChatGPT.
The experience defaults to GPT-5.5 Thinking. OpenAI collaborated with over 50 finance professionals to evaluate accuracy, with GPT-5.5 Thinking scoring 79/100 and GPT-5.5 Pro scoring 82.5/100 on an internal financial benchmark.
Financial memories are stored as a separate memory type that users can view or delete at any time. Connected accounts don’t expose full account numbers or allow transactions. Data is deleted within 30 days of disconnection.
OpenAI also previewed an upcoming integration with Intuit, letting users move from financial advice to actions like checking credit card approval odds, estimating taxes, or booking a session with a local tax expert — all within ChatGPT. Moving from answers to action is the ultimate vision for this feature.
